How much does a barrier-free house cost as a new build?
A barrier-free modular house from DWELLII starts at €157,440 for the TR01 (40 m²) and €231,160 for the TR3M (71.7 m²), each turnkey including VAT. The accessibility package is individually calculated. Land, foundations and site connections are additional. KfW funding can significantly reduce the effective financing cost.
What KfW funding is available for barrier-free construction?
The most relevant programmes are KfW 159 "Age-appropriate conversion" (loan up to €50,000) and KfW 455-B (grant up to €6,250). Both must be applied for before construction begins. Regional state funding may also be available. For questions about the application process, we recommend speaking with your bank or an independent financial adviser.
Can a modular house be built barrier-free?
Yes — and modular houses actually have an advantage here: by definition they are single-storey and therefore liveable without climbing stairs. That is the most important prerequisite for barrier-free living. The DWELLII accessibility package adds step-free transitions, a walk-in shower and wider doors. From what age should I plan for barrier-free living?
Experts recommend planning for barrier-free living from the age of 50 — especially for a new build or major renovation. In a new build the additional cost is minimal; retrofitting can cost many times more. A barrier-free home also increases the long-term living value and makes care easier if needed.
